Where I Started

I got my undergrad in Business with an IT concentration from NCSU in 2018 and graduated with my MBA with a Marketing Certificate from ECU in 2020. Believe it or not – throughout both of those degrees I had zero exposure to SEO. The first time I really explored the topic was during a job application work sample shortly after finishing grad school. I began training full-time in SEO in August 2020 as a novice.

Training Experience

Early training with Brian covered foundational SEO topics and live demoed tools we’d be using together throughout our training.

Brian shared a training calendar with me that outlined the order and pace of topics we’d hit and then during each session, Brian would share an agenda of what we’d be reviewing that day. Those agendas were helpful to keep us on track during each call but also for my own recollection after each training to help me recreate our training tactics out in the wild. I also took my own notes throughout every lesson.
After we’d completed most of my foundational SEO training, I began bringing different topics to Brian during each session which we would workshop live together during our meetings and explore specific situations and websites.

This is also around the time Brian began pivoting our training more to high-level site auditing and SEO strategy setting. We’d audit a site together, gather insights, and set strategy – factoring in what SEO work would be the highest priority to pursue based on effort vs. value.

Brian was equally as knowledgeable, patient, and engaging throughout all levels of my SEO training and I’d recommend him to anyone interested in the field – regardless of what level you’re starting at or how far you plan to take your skills!

Where I Am Now

I’m a senior analyst at an award-winning digital marketing agency working on large brand names, as well as small online and local businesses. I work with anywhere from 10-20 clients at a time, all with different campaign strategies and varying levels of SEO background knowledge, technical challenges, and available resources.
